EntranceLocation & Atmosphere:  Located near the intersection of I-77 and US 421, this is a great family owned winery with a laid back farmhouse, country feel. The tasting room is a converted dairy barn, with a large covered patio, a fun place to enjoy a glass of wine. The land has been farmed by the Myers family for 10 generations, and Benny and Kim Myers planted their first grapes in 2001.

The Wines:  he wines range from good to very good, from solid Barrel Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Gris, and Cabernet Sauvignon to interesting red blends, called Scarlet Mountain, Shiloh and Bounty. They have a number of wines fortified with spirits, and filled with things like chocolate, as well as . We hand it to them for creativity for adding things to wines.

Patio areaTastings & Tours:  Tastings are $10, which includes a taste of all of their wines (generally 8 to 10). Laurel Gray is one of the few wineries that charges for their tours, which cost $10 per person.

Events/ Shopping/ Other Amenities:  The one disappointing area of Laurel Gray is the lack of events. They do have some events with neighboring wineries, but they could use a musician playing on weekend afternoons. The setting is relaxed and pastoral, but could use a little bit of entertainment. They sell some food items, such as meat, cheese, and snack items. There were some neat winery items for sale in the tasting room area.

Value:  Priced at $15 to $40 per bottle, we believe that Laurel Gray’s wines are a bit on the pricey side for the quality of wine, but not horribly so. Their barrel Chardonnay is $25, and their regular Cabernet Sauvignon is $32, both a bit steep.

Rating:  We felt that Laurel Gray has good to very good wine, and a great farm/country relaxed feel. The wines are a little pricey, and they could use more events and entertainment, but still a solid four-star winery worth visiting.
