Grassy Creek EntranceLocation & Atmosphere:  Grassy Creek is located about one mile from Elkin, NC. The tasting building used to be a dairy barn. It has a very laid back, country feel, with comfortable chairs and couches throughout.

wine tastingThe Wines:  Winemaker Jim Douthit produces Sauvignon Blanc, and both a stainless (non-oaked) and barrel oaked Chardonnay, and Riesling. They also have Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Barbera, and Red Barn Blend, a blend of Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese. The Chardonnays were good; the Red Barn Blend was very good. The rest of the wines were somewhere in-between.

tasting roomTastings & Tours:  There is a large tasting bar on the left side of the building. Tastings cost $8 for any 6 of the 15 wines the winery produces, dry or sweet.

tasting roomEvents/ Shopping/ Other Amenities:  On the winery property are three Klondike Cabins available for overnight stays, one is 4 bedrooms, the other two have 2 bedrooms. There are some neat winery things for sale in the red barn tasting room. There is a trail on the property you can take along Grassy Creek. There is some sporadic musical entertainment, which is announced mostly on their Facebook page. Their website is not kept up.

Value:  Priced between $12 and $23 per bottle, the wines of Grassy Creek are a very good value.

vineyardRating:Grassy Creek Winery sits on a large, beautiful piece of property. With its dairy barn tasting building, it offers a laid-back county feel. The wines are solidly in the good to very good category, but we struggled to rate any of them as outstanding. On the internet, it appears that this winery is for sale with a $3 Million price tag (as of Feb. 2019). We hope the new owners will put some new energy into this very beautiful place.
