treehouseLocation & Atmosphere:  Treehouse Vineyards are located just south of Monroe, NC, not far from Charlotte. The most unique feature of this winery are the two treehouses, which are like small apartments that you can rent. The Date Nite treehouse, which does not have running water, can be rented for $25 per hour; the other two treehouses (with water, heat and air, etc.) can be rented overnight. The tasting room building overlooks the vineyard, which drops away into a small scenic valley. To get there, you drive through a south Monroe neighborhood of suburban houses, and suddenly you are there. The property itself is beautiful, and has a very spacious feeling, which makes for a great gathering spot to visit with friends, enjoy one of their theme nights, and makes a great wedding venue.

The Wines:  They grow sweet grapes on the property, and produce mostly sweet wines. They also produce a couple of decent dry wines from grapes harvested in the Yadkin Valley of North Carolina, such as Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Merlot, as well as a dry white blend named Liquid Sunshine. The dry wines are good and solid, but not spectacular.

Events/ Shopping/ Other Amenities:  Treehouse has one of the busiest activities calendars we have seen. They have live bands on a regular basis in their Live at the Vines series, typically with food trucks. They also have a regularly rotating schedule of Latin Nights, where a huge area in front of the D.J. turns into a giant dance floor, Murder Mystery Nights, Vino & Paint Nights, and Ladies’ Nights. These events all continue throughout the year. In addition, the tasting building sells a number of winery themed items for you to peruse.

Tastings & Tours:  Story based wine tastings are offered at the top of each hour from 12 to 6 p.m., for $8 per person. Winemaker tours are offered Friday through Sunday at 2:30 and 4:30.

Value:  Treehouse wines are reasonably priced for the quality of the wine, but they do have a limited selection of dry wines.

Rating:  Located in the outskirts of Charlotte, Treehouse Vineyards is a fun and very active winery, with beautiful, open feeling property. If you are adventurous, rent out a treehouse for a few house, and enjoy their wines. While their dry wines are good, many people love their sweet wines. The highlight of this winery, however, is the huge selection of music, activities, and themed nights, which are tons of fun, making this a great four-star winery experience.
