main entranceLocation & Atmosphere: As a small family vineyard, Cellar 4201 is owned and cared for by Greg and Donna Hutchins, with five acres of vines. For a very small winery, they grow a decent number of varietals. It has the look and feel of a decent, small “Mom and Pop” type vineyard. It is located only about 15 minutes from Winston-Salem.

vineyardThe Wines: They grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, a stainless and a barrel Chardonnay, as well as a decent Rose. Cellar 4201 also carries two red blends, Cherokee Red and Warrior, which we favored. Overall, the wines were okay, but we liked some more than others. We rated them from fair to good. We hope that with a few more years of maturing vines, we will be able to rate them as good to very good.

tasting roomTastings & Tours: Tastings cost $8 to sample all of the seven wines currently produced on the vineyard.

Events/ Shopping/ Other Amenities: Our server said that the winery had performers, but he couldn’t name any, and the website didn’t list any happenings.

patioValue: The wines were a fair value, not overpriced, and are certainly drinkable.

Rating: This is a small mom and pop winery, and therefore it lacks many of the amenities of larger places. It has a decent patio to enjoy a glass of wine, but we wish it was oriented with a more panoramic view of the vineyard. If you are visiting other wineries in the area, put this one on your list to stop by for a tasting.
