Three Star Wineries
Located several miles east of I-77 in Dobson, NC, Stony Knoll Vineyards is a small but pleasant winery. A modern tasting building overlooks the rolling hills of the vineyard, providing a nice view. Owned by Van & Kathy Coe, it is a North Carolina Century Farm, meaning that the land has been farmed continuously for more than 100 years, with a historic wine lodge on the property that you can rent.
The property is located just off of U.S. 21, 15 minutes north of Elkin, North Carolina, near Stone Mountain. The winery sits high on a hill. While approaching the property, you realize that in front of you is not a grape vineyard, but an apple orchard. McRitchie produces a collection of wines and hard apple ciders, which we understand are very popular with millennials.
Adagio is a musical term which means “slowly with passion.” With this great musical theme, Adagio Vineyards is a different sort of winery. Owned by two dentists, Dr. Tim and Dr. Jan Wahl, Tim handles the winemaking, while Jan makes violins. The winery is a comfortable, newer building with inviting seating areas, and many custom violins made by Jan.
